How it works
How business vehicle finance works with CarsOne
Five steps from your first question to the keys in your hand.
- 1
1. Tell us about the vehicle (about 60 seconds)
The vehicle type, who's selling it, the approximate price, your ABN and how it'll be used. No credit check when you first enquire.
- 2
2. A vehicle-finance specialist calls you
One person reads your enquiry and calls to understand the vehicle, the business and what you're trying to achieve — your details aren't sent to a crowd of lenders.
- 3
3. We explain the structures that fit
Chattel mortgage, hire purchase, lease, sale and leaseback, refinance or property-backed — what each means for ownership, GST and the end of the term.
- 4
4. Documents and approval
Once you decide to go ahead, we tell you exactly which documents your lender needs, then work for approval as fast as possible. A credit check happens at this stage, not before.
- 5
5. Settlement and keys
The lender pays the dealer, private seller or auction house directly — clearing any finance the seller still owes — and you collect the vehicle.
Before you enquire
You don't need everything ready to ask a question, but a few things help: a rough idea of the vehicle and price, whether you're buying from a dealer, a private seller or an auction, and how long your ABN has been registered. If you'd like to see the likely structures first, try the business vehicle finance planner. Our documents checklist explains what lenders typically ask for.
Why accuracy matters
We match you to a structure and lender based on what you tell us. If the vehicle's price, your trading history or a past credit issue turns out different from the form, we have to start again. Accurate answers up front are the fastest route to approval — and they mean the first option we bring you is a realistic one.
Common questions
Does enquiring affect my credit score?
No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. A credit check only happens once you decide to go ahead with an application, and we'll tell you before it does.
Will my details be sent to lots of lenders?
No. One CarsOne specialist works out which structure and lender suit your situation. We don't spray your details around in the hope someone says yes.
How fast can it happen?
It depends on the vehicle, the seller and how quickly documents arrive. We work to get approval as fast as possible, and having your documents ready makes the biggest difference.
Do I need to have found the vehicle first?
No. You can enquire before you've chosen, get approval in principle, then supply the vehicle details. That's often the best approach for auctions and private sales.
What should I have ready?
ID, your ABN details, the vehicle or seller details if you have them, and recent business bank statements or BAS. Our documents checklist guide has the full list.
